Through Mekari Talenta, you can create Strategic Business Units (SBUs). This concept is commonly used in company strategy. An SBU is a semi-autonomous unit that operates as a separate entity and is responsible for its own strategic planning, decision-making, and performance evaluation. The SBU feature in Talenta is created separately from other organizations in your company where you can create several SBU groups first before designing their internal structure.
In this guide, you will learn how to design and manage Strategic Business Units, such as adding, editing, deactivating/reactivating, and deleting Strategic Business Unit Items. Here’s how.
To access the Strategic Business Unit page, go to the Settings menu.
Under the Company section, click Strategic business unit.
A. How to Add an SBU Item
Using the SBU Item creation feature, organizations can add new work units to an SBU Group. This feature makes it easier for HR to categorize, add SBU lists, and link employees to work units. Here are the steps to Create an SBU Item.
On the SBU group page, click “View details” on one of the groups with Active status where you want to add a unit.
In the newly created group, the SBU list will be empty as shown below. Click “Add SBU” to create a new SBU.
-
In the pop-up that appears, enter the Code and SBU name. Include the SBU parent if necessary. Then, select “Save.”
- Make sure the Code and SBU name are new/not previously registered.
- If you select “Save and add more,” a new SBU will be created and you will be redirected to this pop-up again to immediately add another SBU. The SBU will then be successfully saved.
B. How to Edit an SBU Item
With the SBU Item update feature, you can modify and update information related to an existing work unit to adjust to changes in the item’s information. Below are the steps to Edit an SBU Item.
On the SBU group page, click “View details” on one of the groups you want to edit.
From the list of created SBUs, select the SBU you want to edit. Click “Actions” then Edit SBU.
In the pop-up that appears, you can change the Code and/or SBU name. Include or edit the SBU parent if necessary. Then, select “Save changes.”
The SBU will then be successfully updated. You will be redirected to the SBU list page.
C. How to Deactivate/Activate an SBU
The SBU Item deactivation feature hides work units that are no longer in use, preventing them from cluttering menu options and employee profiles. This keeps old data safely stored and allows reactivation anytime without needing to delete connected data.
Important
- Ensure there are no employees registered under the SBU Item.
- You need to transfer any remaining employees using the Employee Transfer feature.
- Deactivation of an SBU Item is independent and does not affect its main SBU Group.
- Deactivated SBU Items will be hidden from employee profiles and menu options.
- SBU Item data remains stored in the SBU Group detail list and can be reactivated.
Here’s how to deactivate and reactivate an SBU Item.
On the SBU group page, click “View details” on one of the groups you want to edit.
Then, deactivate the SBU Item by clicking “Actions,” then selecting Deactivate SBU.
In the pop-up, confirm your action by clicking “Deactivate.”
The SBU Item will then be successfully deactivated, and its status changes to Inactive.
To reactivate an SBU Item with Inactive status, click “Actions” then select Activate SBU.
In the pop-up, confirm your action by clicking “Activate.”
The SBU Item will then be successfully reactivated, and its status changes to Active.
D. How to Delete an SBU Item
The SBU Item deletion feature permanently removes a work unit from the system if the item was entered incorrectly or is no longer needed.
Important
You can delete an SBU Item only if there are no employees linked to it, so transfer employees first using the Employee Transfer feature.
Here are the steps to Delete an SBU Item.
On the SBU group page, click “View details” on one of the groups you want to edit.
From the list of created SBUs, select the SBU you want to delete. Click “Actions” then Delete SBU.
Click “Delete” on the pop-up that appears.
The SBU will then be successfully deleted, and you will return to the SBU list page.
E. How to Import and Export SBU Items
You can also bulk upload SBU data using the import feature. Here are the steps.
On the SBU Group list page, click “View details”.
Then, click the “Import” icon.
You can first download the template provided by Talenta.
-
Then, fill in the data information on the template as follows.
In the SBU Parent column, enter the SBU code.
Next, click “Choose File” to select the file and click “Submit” to upload it.
The system will then process the import.
You can check the import status through the Inbox menu.
If the import is successful, you will see the following display.
When you return to the SBU Item page, the import process has been completed successfully, and the system will automatically add new items to the list.
You can also download existing data by clicking the “Export” icon.
The downloaded data will look like this.
This concludes the guide on how to add, edit, delete, export, and import Strategic Business Units through Mekari Talenta.
