SBU stands for Strategic Business Unit, which is a concept used in company strategy. This strategy is defined within separate business units inside a larger organization. An SBU is a semi-autonomous unit that operates as a separate entity and is responsible for its own strategic planning, decision-making, and performance evaluation.
You can create Strategic Business Units through Mekari Talenta HRIS. This allows you to create SBU groups that are separate from other organizations within your company.
Before creating an SBU, you must first create and manage the group (create, edit, deactivate/activate, and delete). Follow the steps below.
To access the Strategic Business Unit page, go to the Settings menu.
Under the Company section, click Strategic business unit.
A. How to Create an SBU Group
The SBU Group creation feature is used to add new work units to the system, allowing the organization to divide and group business structures as needed. This feature allows HR to set categories, add a list of SBUs, and link employees to work units (items). Here are the steps to Create an SBU Group.
On the SBU group page, click “Create SBU group”.
In the pop-up that appears, you must fill in the Group name. Enter a Description if needed. Then, click “Save”.
The SBU group will be successfully created and have the status ‘Active’.
B. How to Edit an SBU Group
The SBU Group update feature is used to change or update information of existing work units according to changes in the organizational structure. Here are the steps to Edit an SBU Group.
On the SBU group page, click “View details” on the group you want to edit.
Select “Actions” at the top right of the page, then click Edit SBU group.
In the pop-up that appears, you can modify the Group name. Add a Description if needed. Then, click “Save changes”.
The SBU group details have been successfully updated.
C. How to Deactivate/Activate an SBU Group
The SBU Group deactivation feature hides work units that are no longer in use, preventing them from cluttering menu options and employee profiles. Thus, old data remains safely stored and can be reactivated anytime without needing to delete connected data.
Important
- Make sure there are no employees registered under that SBU.
- You need to transfer employees still assigned using the Employee transfer feature.
- Deactivated SBU groups will be hidden from employee profiles and menu options.
- SBU group data remains saved in the SBU Group list and can be reactivated.
Here’s how to deactivate and reactivate an SBU Group.
On the SBU group page, click “View details” on the group you want to edit.
Then, click “Actions” and select Deactivate.
In the pop-up that appears, confirm your action by clicking “Deactivate”.
The SBU Group has been successfully deactivated.
For the SBU Group that has been deactivated, the status changes to Inactive. If you want to reactivate the deactivated SBU Group, click “View details”.
Then, click “Actions”, and select Activate.
The SBU Group will be active again with the status Active.
D. How to Delete an SBU Group
The SBU Group deletion feature is used to permanently remove a work unit from the system if the data was entered incorrectly or is no longer needed.
Important
You can delete an SBU Group as long as there are no employees linked to it.
Here are the steps to Delete an SBU Group.
On the SBU group page, click “View details” on the group you want to edit.
-
Select “Actions” at the top right of the page then click Delete.
Important
You cannot delete an SBU group if there are employees still assigned to the SBU. To delete an SBU group, make sure the employees in the group are unassigned. Click “Delete” to proceed with deleting the group.
This concludes the guide on how to create, edit, deactivate/activate, and delete Strategic Business Units through Mekari Talenta. Within this group, you will need to create Strategic Business Unit Items. Learn how to do that here.
